Here are a few tips to make your rooms look bigger!
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION - open the blinds, fling back the curtains, and let in that beautiful light. It will expand your space.
SMOKE + MIRRORS - well let's forget the smoke, but mirrors are the secret-sauce for expanding a space. Stategically placed, sparkling-clean mirrors will reflect light, trick the eyes into believing they are seeing more than what is there, and who doesn't want to check themselves out as the future owners of your glorious space.
SIZE MATTERS - when it comes to carpets. Itty-bitty carpets scattered here and there - perhaps under a coffee table or hiding under a dining room table - are doing your space ZERO favors. Commit to a rug that sits fully and appropriately where it should. See BLOG POST 'Rug Rules + Rugs Rule'.
PEEK-A-BOO - clean your windows! An unobstructed view of the great outdoors will visually grow your space.
SIT DOWN, I CAN'T SEE - the scale of your furnishings plays a huge role in how expansive and open your space feels, especially if your ceilings are standard height. When sofas, chairs, sideboards, and bookshelves are tall, they impede the visual flow of your space making it appear smaller. You want the eye to glide through the space, uninterrupted. Large chandeliers and bar pendant lights will also chop up the flow of your space. Keep it low slung yet visually interesting.
HUE GOT THIS - This will be the subject of an upcoming blog post where we will take a deep dive into paint and color. Suffice to say that paint color and which walls you paint can expand or shrink your room. It's truly fascinating and talk about tricking your brain!
Play with these concepts and have fun while you're doing it!
